The Pope came to rock!

Last night was the first night in 7 years that the Smoking Popes played a show together in public. I had heard some strange rumors of Josh the lead singer had become a born again and had used his music to preach to us sinners. None of that really came out that night which I can't say is a good or bad thing, but with all the random Bible thumping music I've been exposed to lately it wouldn't have been a surprised . I heard that Josh is also a member of a very strange converted church that was once some sort of large pricemart with a chapel added on to it here in the local suburb of Chicago, but that's neither here nor there. The show was put on for charity and how can anyone say anything bad about that. In fact this is probably the best rock show line up I have ever seen and I am kicking myself for not getting other tickets for promise ring, Ted Leo, or local H. The Popes played their songs fast and hardly and time was wasted between songs to even say hello to the crowd. It was clear they came to play and have fun with fans that waited so long to see them play together again. I haven't the words to describe how great the show was so I won't try! Hopefully this reunion show does turn into more of a permanent gig for them and we get to see more Popes music in the future....
